It's simple, really. Low level players don't do sequences of trades because they can't fathom that losing a piece after taking a higher value one is good for their position. Michael never took the knight with the pawn because there was a pawn "defending" it and he would lose his own. It's as simple as that

I like watching strong chess players roasting lower rated games cause it’s more entertaining and I understand what’s going on more than high level chess. It’s also way more funny to see the frustration on his face since he knows how bad the position is or how unintentionally genius a move was and tells us about all of the plot twists and thought processes
