00:00 Hello Everyone!

The Julius Baer Generation Cup, the 5th event on the $2 million 2023 Champions Chess Tour, features three Divisions of 8, 16 and 32 players. Each division is a double-elimination knockout where if you lose one match you drop down to a Losers bracket and can still win the tournament. In the Grand Final if the player from the Winners bracket loses, there’s a rematch. The total prize fund is $235,000, with a top prize of $30,000 (150 Tour points) in Division I, $10,000 in Division II (50 points) and $5,000 (20 points) in Division III. The top 3 in Division I and the winner of Division II qualify straight to Division I of the next event on the Tour.

The time control for normal games is 15 minutes per player for all moves, with a 3-second increment each move. In Division I and II the Winners bracket matches are played over four games, while in the Losers bracket there are two games. In Division III all matches are over two games except the 4-game Grand Final. A tie in a match is decided by an Armageddon game with no increment, where the players bid for time they are willing to play with. The lowest bidder gets that time and can pick colour, while the opponent gets 15 minutes. Black only needs a draw to win the match. Official website: championschesstour.com

Grand Finals are SO much more exciting than Finals! We need to push this line hard. Beyond Grand Final you could have Ultimate Grand Final. And beyond Ultimate Grand Final you could have Super Ultimate Grand Final! And then Mega Super Ultimate Grand Finals! That would put "Finals" in their place!

Firouzja, 20 years from now: I coulda had class… I coulda been a contender! I coulda been somebody… instead of a bum.

From winning to losing, Alireza kind of played like us.

Please what variation of the Taimanov Sicilian defense is it, can anyone spell it out. I have always been confused

Suggestion # Mamedyarov Shakhriyar vs Samuel Sevian or any of the Nordibek Lazavik Wins from their Matches vs Wesley and Fabiano

They are in winners finals. Alireza will go down to losers finals and the winner of losers finals will play Magnus in grand finals. Magnus only has to win one set in grand finals whereas whoever wins losers finals would have to beat Magnus twice. It’s a common system in competitive video games.

Nic (J Bruce Feynman Niccolo P. Bentulan) says:

1st – World Cup Round 2 – Wesley So's girlfriend Carissa Yip as black beats chinese grandmaster xue zhao.

(3 Chinese descent in 1 sentence. Lol.)

    #suggestion

2nd – World Cup Round 1 – Argentina gets zugzwang by Wesley So…

    …'s girlfriend Carissa Yip

    Campos, Maria Jose (2212)

Wesley So's girlfriend Yip, Carissa (2369)

    #suggestion

    3rd – Alice Lee beat Wesley So…

…'s girlfriend Carissa Yip in 2023 USCC girls juniors.

(3 Chinese descent in 1 sentence.)

    #suggestion

Carissa is underperforming and even lost to a WGM because Carissa is distracted by a secret relationship with Wesley So that started in the 2022 Olympiad. Look at Carissa's X header.

Notice both of them are defending champions but then underperform in their 1st tournaments after the Olympiad.

    Carissa Yip

    2021 USCC women's – winner

2022 USCC girls juniors – didn't play but would've easily won if not for playing in 2022 USCC juniors instead

2023 USCC girls juniors – only 3rd place (should be 2nd minimum)

    Wesley So

    2019 classical WFRCC – winner

    2021 9LX – 2nd place

    2021 USCC – winner

    2022 9LX – only 5th place

    2022 USCC – only 5th-6th place

2022 rapid WFRCC – only 6th place (should be 4th minimum; also for other 2)

    4th – Timestamps

Why not let viewers make timestamps in comments then you can pin the best timestamp comment and copy the timestamps to the video description?

    #suggestion

    5th – Magnus cheats Anish

    in 2023 superbet blitz round 7 –> 3:22:36 in 8gw7XDq87C4

    #suggestion

    6th – Philippine women's chess 2022 WFRCC

    #suggestion

WGM Janelle Frayna, the 1st and only Philippine WGM, upset Georgian GM (really GM not just WGM) Bela Khotenashvili at the 2022 world blitz.

    There's a 13-move UNDERPROMOTION puzzle here.

    [Variant "From Position"]

    [FEN "6k1/6b1/1p1P3p/6pP/3pPpP1/p2NqP2/6K1/5Q2"]

    1. Qd1 a2 2. Qb3+ Kf8 3. d7 Qe2+ 4. Nf2 Ke7 5. Qd5 Kd8 6. Qe6 Bf6 7. Qe8+ Kc7 8. Qc8+ Kd6 9. e5+ Qxe5 10. d8=R+ Bxd8 11. Qxd8+ Kc6 12. Qa8+ Kb5 13. Qxa2

For some reason none of the Philippine channels except Kelvinllovejr even cover this game. LOL. But Janelle did cover the game where e drew against Nemo, so maybe Janelle will cover this game later on.

P.S. Please help get Wesley So on Lex Fridman's podcast. See

Watching this live was so crazy, all hope for Magnus was lost when the bar evaluation show almost full white, but just one inaccuracies, not even a blunder, could made the game turn around and bit by bit Magnus bar was raising and finally won the game. Just another crazy stuff by Magnus.

It must be really scary to play against him, just one slight inaccuracy after 99 percent perfect moves could rob you from the victory you deserved. And it’s not even a draw but a loss. So devastating.

magnus hates classics, because sometimes we have 7 hours in a game and the result is still a draw..

I still imagine Magzy would be almost unbeatable in classical…but it clearly bores him. I must admit the decline in quality in rapid/blitz from how these guys play in classical time control is a bit annoying now and then.

Pretty disgusting game. Somehow Magnus makes it look almost rigged just by being himself, the Magnus effect is so strong.

This game was too hype to not have a slow motion replay in it. Magnus is just on another level lately.

Magnus's real name is… Well, he doesn't have a real name. His series' name is T-1000.

Magnus is THE ENDGAME Boss , on hardest difficulty

Crazier Dave may have won the finals, but he'll most likely have to face Craziest Dave in the grand finals. Is was the early loss that made him go completely nuts and destroy everyone in the losers' bracket.

Firouzja must have been furious after 1st game hahaha

why couldn't alireza calculate the line???

for once i'm gonna flex it, i found B3 in less than 30 seconds.

What is with Bishop to b5 instead of Queen to b3 after black played King to e7 ?

As an FGC player, hearing agadmator describe a double elimination bracket like it’s bizarre makes me laugh

    In 13:52, what happens if white plays b3? Because if black plays Rb4; Ba5, Nc6; Bx4, Nxb4; Qxe5, Nc6; Nb5

"Carlsen said that classical chess has become difficult because Grandmasters have found forced lines in most openings. 'It used to be much easier, but now it has become much more difficult because people have found more or less forced lines in most openings'!" Why is this an issue at the highest level? Is it that these force moves take away the players ability to have initiative?

Someone donated 6174$. Not sure they purposely did this but this number is special num. It is kaprekar constant

Agad is a starcraft fan so I'm pretty sure he understands how double elim brackets work, I think it was a comment more aimed at viewers who perhaps wouldn't know

The greatest of all time because of an actual reason

Who is playing in the Super Mega, Final Grand Final, of the Finals?

this format is so much boring unlike the old format was interesting and had more games and more great players

This is the final. But it's not the final final. Um OK. Ahahahaha.

how u compare this kid to kasparov, magnus is garbage lmfao

It is called winners final, it’s much easier to understand if you call it that. 0:15

Agad knows how to attract viewers instantly. According to title, people will think that Magnus lost the game amd viewers will watch the video to see how it happened.
If title suggested Magnus won, then everyone knows its not a big deal and they may skip the video

Hi Antonio, in case you read this, just seeing the bracket makes double elimination extremely clear. And to summarize, you have to lose two matches/sets to be out of the tournament, if you're the last remaining who didn't lose twice, then you win

Classical chess is becoming too drawish, honestly.

    magnus be like
i just quit being a champion and now im going to be another champion

Why do these players keep on bottling against Magnus

Soon, Magnus will be bored of rapid chess. Alireza, the hype of the new generation cant even win a game.

Why call a final a final when it isn't really final? They should finally figure out what is the real final.
