Perhaps the growing number of people with opinions like yours is why extremists are so successful in their recruiting. I mean, if I was surrounded by people like you, telling me that me and my countrymen are hateful antisemitic cowards by birth, expressing hatred towards me, my fear would likely make me gravitate towards voices that offered protection either in the form of fight or flight.

It's ironic isn't it, that some dude is trying to convince the swedes that they're antisemitic. If we truly were antisemitic we certainly wouldn't need him to explain that to us.

3:19 hur han låser in den sista tonen!!!!!

The best Version from this Song.
Tommy Körberg sing this only fantastic.
I love this Song so much.

sorry, i replied to the wrong comment 😉 that was meant for Iseeitclearly.

So it's your testimony against mine then. I've grown up in Sweden and the only antisemitism I've encountered has been on TV and online, particularly in the YouTube comment section. If antisemitism is as common as you claim, it's a bit odd that I haven't experienced it even once.

I need to do no such thing. I was there many times and witnessed it myself.

Whatever I said that triggered such an emotional response it must have been awful. I'm sorry for the emotional distress I caused you. Do you want me to wipe that tear?
If you think I'm wrong, how about correcting me instead of behaving like a child?

There's nothing factual about making a sweeping generalization based on anecdotal evidence. If you want to convince me, a native swede, that the people of my country is particularly antisemitic, you need to provide a bit more compelling evidence than your own unverifiable assertions.

Tell me this…. Why are Swedes so prejudiced against Jews to this day? This is a fact. I know Sweden well, and have travelled all over the country many times, and have heard the prejudice first hand. What's the deal there? And I'm talking about 20 years ago and 10 years ago, before the more recent conflicts with the Palistinians. You've got huge trouble with Muslims in your country, but never with Jews. So, why do Swedes hate Jews?

Why do you judge a people by the malicious decisions of a few individuals of the past, decisions that did not reach public awareness until the harm was already done? Our WW2 psuedo-neutrality is not something we're proud of, rather ashamed, and it's dishonest of you to define us by this stain on our otherwise relatively clean flag.
I'm also not a fan of categorizing people by their nationality whatsoever.

don´t tell the world what to think..it´s your own opinions and you´re obligated to have them, but no one else cares…

world doesn´t respect sweden? are you stupid… i´ve worked for a international market research company for last 4 years and sweden are in top 5…ehm..always?

If you can't take part of your ancestors deeds, how can you be proud of anything good your country ever done?
You can't just pick what you want in history and take pride from the good and dont feel any guilt from the bad.
Sweden is a great country with a rich history. That silly country across the atlantic is still taking its first baby steps, while we are filled with wisdom. We know what war means.

Something is really wrong here. You do know that Finland parted with the axis right? And also another fact, sweden never foght any russians. Sure Sweden let them pass the border, but Sweden never aided Finland with troops. Sweden also let germans cross the border to Norway.
"I'm only brave when I have too, being brave doesn't mean you go looking for trouble" – Mufasa, the lion king
My grandfather was placed by the border to Finland, but he never saw any action.

"The world doesn't respect swedes because they are frail people whose asses have been kicked in wars by the Danes and by the Russians" HA! Learn your history. No other nation in world have defeated the Russians as many times the swedes did. We won the 1000 years war against the danes. Stop whine about the swedes like a freaking chicken, because you seems to not have any kind of true fact.

thousands of thousands of jews were saved by Sweden in WW2. over 10 000 swedes marsched to Finland to aid them against Russia. Sweden was neutral in theory, but if you know the history you should also know that Sweden did everything they could to aid the allies at same time they kept their nation free. People came to us, we welcomed them to live in safety. We helped Europe to repair itself after the war, we helped the Allies in WW2 and after it!

You know,I'm tired of that crap, really. Live in the present. No one who wasn't there even need to hear about being guilty of something. People say that they're ashamed of their past, but, it's not THEIR past, it's their ancestors' past. Sweden is not a country worse than any other country in the Western world today. So please, save that rage to something that is current.
You do not explicitly say that it's the current Swedes who are to blame, but seriously, write to someone who was alive then.

I've always wondered about the phenomena, when people seem to live in the past to the degree that they can't see the distinctive difference between a person and its ancestors. Why be ashamed of something someone else did? If any people, living today, are to blame, they're probably quite the minority. I guess just a few percent of the present Swedish population where alive during the second world war. And since adults are not to blame you had to be born pre 1927 to be guilty of anything you write

I love Josh Page's version of this, I only heard this song for the first time today (I am Australian) and I absolutely love it! 🙂

It is often said that the original is always the best and in this case, that is definately true. NO ONE will ever sing this song as amazing as Tommy does, Josh Groban did it very well. no doubt, but Tommy is still the man

There's just some songs that should be considered attached forever to a particular performer. If Art Garfunkel did nothing else in his life but sing BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER, his life would have been worthwhile. No one but Yul Brenner should ever headline The King and I. And ANTHEM and Tommy Korberg should always and forever be in the same sentence.

Well, seeing as I'm not only of jewish ancestry but also someone who belongs to the gay community and lives in Sweden: Yes, I'm still ashamed. There's nothing wrong with swedes per se, neither is there something wrong with muslims. It's the extremists we ought to worry about and they're nowhere near the majority of any group. I feel ashamed over any person making assumptions without realizing how offensive it is.

I have jewish ancestry and yet I feel ashamed for humanity when I read comments like these.

completely agree, i also prefer Michael Ball's as well

Beyond his understandable nervousness, Scot Jai McDowell performed wondrously in the strongest pop or Broadway voice one could expect to hear, but the producers of the TV show didn't give him time to sing the entire song (or it is possible the versions I saw were cut for the broadcasts.)

Possibly no one will ever PLAY him like Korburg, but David Carroll, to my studied belief, was the strongest, most passionate, yet most controlled in his SINGING of the grand paean, "Anthem". (And to my ear, the orchestral accompaniment for the original Broadway cast album is superior to even what we hear here.)

Hela konserten finns att köpa på DVD. Dock bara från en (1) återförsäljare och där kostar den 375 kr tyvärr.

Tommy Körberg er legendarisk og ikke til at overgå!

Anders Eljas is his name. One of the most famous musicians in Sweden. He conducted the orchestra in the original studio recordings of Chess.

I agree, Anthony does this song better than Tommy. But listen to Fred Johansons version.

It is unlikely that ANYONE can ever better Tommy Korberg <3 Legend.

    No man, no madness
Though their sad power may prevail
Can possess, conquer, my country's heart
    They rise to fail
    She is eternal
Long before nations' lines were drawn
When no flags flew, when no armies stood
    My land was born
And you ask me why I love her
    Through wars, death and despair
She is the constant, we who don't care
And you wonder will I leave her but how
I cross over borders but I'm still there now
    How can I leave her
    Where would I start
Let man's petty nations tear themselves apart…

Not just your homeland, but your home town… I moved from Dudley, West Midlands, UK when I was just seven but I remain a West Bromwich football fan. 🙂

My two favourite covers are the original by this awesome person ;3 and Anthony Warlowe. MY GOD TOMMY'S GOOD. But Anthony… but Tommy… But Anthony… TT_TT

Jag anar en liten ironi i kommentaren du svarade på :3

Jag har den sparad på datorn, skulle kunna skicka den till dig om du vill.
Du kan ju lämna din mail i ett privat meddelande isf.

That sentence… "Let mans petty nations tear themselves apart. My lands only borders lie around my heart." I tremble hearing it.

History should teach us that nation lines always can change depending on politics, but never ones right to a homeland. No one is to tell anyone where he/she belong, where to live or which places to love. My homeland will, in many ways, never feel like home to me, because I simply doesn't fit in culturally, but it's mine to share with whom I will.

jag letade som en galning efter skellefteå 89 😮 visste att jag haft de sparad… finns den någon annan stans ? Hemskt att den försvunnit från YT

I want to dedicate this to my favorite country Turkey… this how I feel for that country..t……..

Otrolig sång som alltid får mig på bra humör och Tommy sjunger som en gud!

Jo vet, det kanske blir med lite humoristiskt underton…det tror jag på.
