Tanya is horrible, please find a commentator who does not make me skip forward!

Great production team and anouncers/analysts, thanks for the free coverage. Thank you, and keep up the good work 🙂

    2024=eval bar.
there's no better way to get a lot of people to not watch this than to forget to include an eval bar.

Step up the production, this is audio issues are too much to bear. And this is nothing new…

Go Gukesh. Seeing a future world champion in him. India's second after Anand.

i thought this was fischer random, they call it freestyle chess ?

Ding is so weak 🤦🏼‍♂️ this is embarrassing for the chess World champion to be at this level. Wow!

I’m surprised none of them people are not impressed with gukesh …!!!! No one at all in comments ..!!! I guess that’s the power of mag …

Daaaamn Niclas – great job. As a german I tried out Niclas' youtube channel a few times and never got into it and stayed at other German (and international) YouTube channels. But holy moly – he did an absurdly good job at the monitor to complement Peter and Tania. Really well done, Niclas. Hope you will join many other international chess broadcasts in future.

This kind of tournament is really interesting. Especially for someone who doesnt play chess a lot like me. I am not that good and have no real ambition to get better. But watching top chess players and get explained the many ideas by other very good chess player is really, really interesting. Like it a lot.
Congrats to Vincent (and its such a pleasure to listen to him in interviews – he so full of joy for chess)… but I hope everybody will find strong moments – especially Ding. He is MUCH better than he can show currently. And although it sounds a bit unpolite… but… I like that Magnus is not leading clearly but is "just" part of the group.

All 8 player are just great skilled people. Thanks for this very interesting tournament and looking foward for the other days A LOT 🙂

please just take care of your health first Ding.. You're the Champion already, now you can leave the title like Magnus did.. wish you the best..

Alireza, keymer, nodirbek, prag, gukesh, arjun, esipenko, lazvik the new generation and future of chess seems to be in great hands🎉

They aren’t showing the right board setup

Weird question about one of those positions where you only need to move the rook over in order to castle, while the king stays on the same square: what if the player touches the king first on instinct? Must he then make a king move because of the touch-move rule? In classical chess touching the king can indicate both a king move or castling to one of the sides.
F.e. Carlsens position at 2:18:23, after developing the queen and bishop.

Whoever wins the candidates becomes world champion.

Is this the so called World champion? 😶😐

great format, horrible presentation. keep it to the dignified chess, do not disgrace the whole thing with silly miss angola sillyness and similar.

"Freestyle"? Looks just like 960, what have they changed?

Can anyone tell me the name of Background music?

Ding Chilling at the bottom 0-4. Hope he bounces back strongly.

why play such awful casiotone crap in the intro? Silence (or, far better, ethnic music like from the Samarkand tourney) would be preferable by far. A childhood of video games should disqualify you from a production job as an adult…

Yep, more evidence of production incompetence coming in already. Mike levels wrong. Lame opening position presentation (god those low-end Vegas costumes…). Completely wrong opening positions displayed…. Interruptions of analysis for redundant boilerplate intro, resumed haphazardly w/o any sound ( 52:40 ).

Why rehearse? Just make all these horrible amateurish beginners mistakes after you go live. At least the announcers are pros. They'll try to cover, pretend nothing's wrong, that you didn't screw the pooch….

[What is that Weissenhaus logo anyway? – hedgehog sex?…]

i like how they all had different colored jackets with the color of the jacket next to their names on screen, nice idea haha

so aggravating watching all this and actually not getting to see any of the games. Maybe have someone scroll through the games or something. just first move to end doesn't have to be much

Great to see Peter and Tania commentating together in person! 🥰 They complement each other and work well together ♟🔥

Producers: let the commentary team- especially Leko- go to the games they want. It seemed like they were frequently being instructed to switch games, sometimes when interesting remarks were still being made.

My ratings in chess 960 is 1,100.😊.i liked to play this set up.

If Magnus can win this freestyle 5 times in succession then he's definitely the goat.

hikaru being the fischer random champion was still not invited

I'm sorry Tania, I wouldn't ever wanna play on a turd board.

Why not 1c3 in first move with tempo on pawn he defend by playing g6 opening up his bishop and than you take center control by pushing d4. Now you can develop your knigths and get king to safety. I saw nobody having this ide only one close and that was c4 but that gives black bishop a strong diagonal. Okei keymer plays similar with d4 first move. Mby little better but c3 mby little more forcingHahaha just realized it was the way Magnus played

57: 50 "If we zoom out to our birdseye view, Peter, we see two boards completely fubar because someone forgot to randomize their starting positions." Even in the second round ( 2:47:30 ) this is still completely wrong and not corrected, although actually Tania continues to fail to notice it. Just keep falling down on the job, guys. This is what we've come to expect from chess24.

Not chess-related: Production quality of the tournament coverage leaves a lot to be desired, unfortunately. Putting some scene timing and sound issues aside, not showing 1st round chessboard variation while they were discussing it back in the studio (around 22:32) was just too not considering the viewer for me not to stop watching and write this commennt. Undeniably, 195k for prizes affects the budget and it is important for the players to have comfort and space to perform but this (not showing the unique chessboard all future games in the round will be played at) was a big mistake imho. UPDATE: 26:19 why two different starting board positions??
