Chess.com calculated the number of prize money earned by chess players in 2022

Leading Chess Platform Chess.com named the chess players who earned the most prizes in 2022.

Top 5:
1. Magnus Carlsen (Norway) – $558,596 (7 tournaments);
2. Wesley So (USA) – $541,632 (14 tournaments);
3. Hikaru Nakamura (USA) – $515,795 (10 tournaments);
4. Ian Nepomniachtchi (Russia) – $429,512 (13 tournaments);
5. Alireza Firouzja (France) – $358,542 (7 tournaments).

It should be noted that the leader in the amount of prize money in the history of chess is Indian grandmaster Viswanathan Anand – $9,462,010. Magnus Carlsen is in second place – $9,438,449. Garry Kasparov is in third place – $7,947,979.
