Carlsen’s father told why his son refused to defend the title

Henrik Carlsen, who is the father and manager of the current world champion Magnus Carlsen, explained why his son refused the title match against Ian Nepomniachtchi.

“As for the format, the opening preparation takes so much time and limits the game of classical chess at the highest level so much that Magnus could not help but feel tired from participating in championship cycles,” – Henrik Carlsen said.

After Magnus Carlsen’s decision, it became known that Ian Nepomniachtchi would play a match for the title of world chess champion against the Chinese Ding Liren.
