im a 1000 elo too and the thing about that elo is we can spot very complicated ideas but we can blunder like a 3 year old too sometimes so the matches are crazily unpredictable

What's most surprising is that they played a 10 minutes game and actually used 10 minutes, they didn't just rush 30 insta-played moves just to blunder a checkmate in 1 with 9:30 remaining on the clock!
But yeah, if your opponent has 2 seconds, even if you can't find the winning move, checks are always good; They'll waste so much time moving their king randomly to illegal squares and panicking.
