That endgame rook vs two knights was fascinating to watch. I struggle against two knights, the fork possibilities get multiplied if I have to get my king at striking distance so I tend to miss one at some point. It was nice to see how seemingly effortlessly a bot defeated two knights with one rook.

The average Elo rating of all players is 1500 exactly. Obviously.
And yes, if you leave out retired or inactive players that can change. If they drop out with more than 1500 they drive the average down, and vice versa.
It seems reasonable to assume that more players start playing, drop their rating, and then stop, so therefore the average rating in the rest of the system would be >1500.

You act like the computer's evaluation is some god-given truth, but it's not. It's certainly the best we have but it's still just some deterministic algorithm. It isn't truth. It's our best guess at the truth, but until chess is solved, it is not capital T The Truth.
