Hey Levy, I think I can help with the mental aspect of your game if you’re open to connecting for a 20 minute call sometime. This isn’t a scheme to sell you something or ask anything of you whatsoever. I’m just genuinely interested in helping (as I would do for anyone in my life) and I’m certain that what I will suggest could be a big difference maker for you.
It’s a simple technique for dealing with anxiety that I learned from a therapist I started seeing when I was in high school and had developed crippling OCD (it got so bad I literally couldn’t leave my house for two weeks at one point). After about two weeks of practicing it, I had completely taken control of my thoughts and was able to happily resume a (mostly) normal life again. And while my use for it was specific to my OCD, the technique itself is generally applicable to any types of anxiety, including pressure-induced types. It’s an approach for dealing with the root source of it.
You might think that sounds too good to be true, but would taking 20 minutes for a call be a bargain if I’m right?

Man it's tough when you see an idea and think the right move is to prep for it as opposed to going for it, hardest decision in chess and just comes down to the mental game and if you have the balls to go for it even if sometimes it doesn't work out.

Every time he puts "GM" in the title, I automatically give it a thumbs down.
IM is basically a cover artist. They can be amazing at doing other people's songs through study and repetition. GMs write their own music, concerts, symphonies.

Levy is psyching himself out. There is no magical, concrete trait that is preventing him from beating his GM opponents– especially in blitz. In fact, it's not that unusual for IMs (and even FMs/NMs) to beat much stronger players in blitz. Just look at NM Canty in lightning, for example
Rising, competitive IMs are often on par with "barely a GM" players, and beat such foes to claim that final, elusive title.
Levy needs to stop respecting his opponents so much, hop in the hyperbolic time chamber (RIP Toriyama), and just train for a while. Then he'll definitely reach that last plateau.

the only way to achieve a difficult goal, is to believe you can do it. It is possible that you may believe you can do it, and still fail to achieve it. But If you do not believe you can do it, it is impossible that you will ever succeed.
