the funny part about this is he has the Hikaru game first but in reality the Giri Esipenko game was over before the Hikaru game, so Hikaru knew a draw secured him a ticket to the candidates

TBH I'm kind of disappointed with Alireza's results in classical chess. Does he just focus more on blitz/rapid overall? His results at the Swiss Open were quite below his rating, I think he finished #59. Maybe he simply chose to not focus too hard on this event. Assuming he qualifies for the Candidates tournament, it will be interesting to see what he does there. Magnus already said last year he was the only person he would actually play for the World Championship, so clearly people do believe in him. Maybe he will break through later in life, like many other players. Magnus was 23 years old when he became world champion, so you can't quite expect young players like Prag or Alireza to win everything at such a young age.

Clutch win for Anish also puts him in a good Candidates spot . He now leads the FIDE Circuit with only one high-scoring event left. Unless Gukesh or Wesley finish top 2 at Sinquefield, Anish is probably in the Candidates. And given Alireza’s play, Wesley might take the ratings spot.
