I don't like these matches that are carefully arranged to advance the interests of a particular player and where the chess is arguably not of the highest standard. In this case it is even worse because it is potentially at the expense of another player. Is this not just a modern way of cheating to get into the Candidates? I think tournaments/matches should promote chess, not individuals.

Hasn't Alireza been saying he's not worried about the candidates' and just wants to play good chess?
I find it annoying that Sergey agreed to a draw in a winning position. Especially given the nature of that tournament.

I don't blame the organizers of this event or Alireza. As long as they stay within the rules of the system, I blame the system. Reminds me of this quote from Aaron Schwartz. "And when the system isn’t working, it doesn’t make sense to just yell at the people in it — any more than you’d try to fix a machine by yelling at the gears. True, sometimes you have the wrong gears and need to replace them, but more often you’re just using them in the wrong way. When there’s a problem, you shouldn’t get angry with the gears — you should fix the machine."

Creating a whole new tournament so that alireza could qualify for the candidate is just absurd, i dont see how is that any different from cheating! hope wesley gets it!

Agadmator, I love your videos and I can understand that you don't want to mess things up with either side, but I wish you had a bit more courage to take a stand on this farce. There have already been some strange situations in previous games, but to draw in a clear winning position here is not worthy of a grandmaster and is unfair, especially as there was still a rumour going around that the "tournament" could be extended by another match.
I couldn't see the clock time of fedorchuk. It was just blank. Kindly look into it😅

I though it was just like a 'monicker' or something but apparently this event is really named like that? And it's NOT even a tourney (not round robin, nor brackets with elimination style), just Alireza playing 3 old dudes twice?

This is only saving grace from the FRENCH Chess team because they know that FIDE will side for Wesley So. In this situation they have to draw this game so that Alireza will not look bad. I still lose my respect to French Chess team U suck!! And also to Alireza low Class!! I still love your Cognac ❤ Louis 13 and Henny Paradis

Based on the other games in this “tournament”, I expected a black resignation rather than agreeing to a draw there.
Even better would have been rh8 instead of agreeing to a draw… daring white to capture rook and play for the win or the black resignation.
Second recent game where the black clock is not working…just FYI…otherwise another great game and analysis! Thanks for all!
When I was following this game live, at the moment 7:10 happened I was mad at Alireza for refusing the trade. I assume Alireza knew he was in a draw-ish if not worse position and IMO his best shot was to trade down into a simplified but equal endgame where he'd have a decent shot at beating a worse opponent in time pressure instead of leaving it in a more complex state where anything could happen. Turns out the engine agrees that you should capture the rook (tbf obv not for the reasons I thought).
