Play chess with Google bard Gemini and Gemini+ because its improved…

This is an era of changes. People will keep making suggestions, everyone will keep making new formats, time controls, etc. But everyone knows changes must be made. Hopefully we reach consensus sooner than later.

Like Golf and Tennis, there could be Majors. Probably 4. Then normal 'points' scoring tournaments and Pro-Ams (for interesting fun)
Like Tennis with 3 different surfaces, the Majors can include Classical, Rapid, Fisher Random, etc

If there are "too many" invitational tournaments, that's obviously where there's "too much" money. Clearly we need less money in chess!

I think there's a happy medium here. 7 hours is much too long. But 2 hours? People watch sporting events that long all the time. If there's good programming around it I don't think that's a problem.

There should be a league as in soccer is the champions league. And other national leagues. Or something as the tennis ATP

Why not do what we do with Chessbots? Force players to start in certain positions/openings.

Fischer random is a mockery of chess. Boring to watch

The Freestyle Chess Championship was great. Not only playing 960 but different time controls. It made me start playing more 960.
And even though he turned out to be a complete a-hole, it does show the genius of Bobby Fischer

What chess needs is a commissioner, like Roger Goodell with the NFL or Adam Silver with the NBA. Levy, you should definitely be a top candidate for the position

Look at what Paul Rabil (old goat of lacrosse) did to professional lacrosse. He noticed the problems with the league and used his following and influence to start a new league l, and now all those players make good money and get more viewers.

Classical Chess is crazy nowadays. The most memorable moment in the last 5 years was the Bc4 (18th move!!! What the actually F) against MVL 😂

I didn't realise the candidates were so broken.

I can understand the Fisher random idea from an anti cheater perspective because how can you possibly prep when its so random. Personally I also prefer blitz games even though I'm only 1100 haha

Why did I feel like I was in a Teams meeting with and overenthusiastic colleague this whole video

what i like most here is that young, progressive tone you are able to voice out, regardless of whether or not your ideas are optimal or even feasible, and of the fact that i personally couldn't care less about the commercial and capitalist, i.e. materialistic, facade of (virtually) everything in today's (real) world, the chess sub-world no exception.

Honestly it’s just structured so differently from every other sport’s organization and not in a good way. It can be different, more accommodating to the specific intricacies of chess, but basing the competition system on a tried and true format, like tennis, no matter the cost, seems very much worth it in my opinion. Great video.

Organised like Tennis World Tour seems a good fit.
2000 (grand slam 4 biggest tournaments in the biggest historical chess countries), 1000 – masters events – prestigious tournaments. Top seeds get opening round bye.

The vibe i get from magnus is hes bored no one could challenge him and he just wants to spice things up lol

Respectfully, cut your talk by 95%
    Hugs and blessings ISH

where is guess the elo? it's been a while.

As a casual viewer, I'd want more organized events, more opportunities for underrated players (and not just invitations), multiple events leading to a World Cup of sorts with *many* people and not just 8, and occasional one-off events like freestyle, but with other stuff (that I can't think of)

The problem is FIDE – it should be replaced by a post-soviet organisation –
this would allow for more creative changes

Ok but you're going against your own arguments. You say that there are too many tournaments and you don't know which one matters, and then you say to create a system like tennis. But Tennis has so many tournaments, yes some tournaments like the Australian open matters more than some other, but why? Because of the prize pool. Its always about the prize at the end, but honestly it should be more like hockey or american football, playoffs of the best players in a certain year or from the past 4-6 months.

Also, playoffs from many sports are going on certain days for like 8 hours aswell (american football on a saturday/sunday). Many games, one after an other so we don't miss too many games while watching one. esports, going for 6hours during a day and even more when there are many many games to be played.

But since I don't know much about chess, if you are telling me a game can last 3 hours, of course I think its too much. I think an hour and a half can be interesting when its fischer random. But honestly otherwise, 45 mins would be much better since its the lenght of a period in hockey, a half in basketball, a game in many esport events.

If the first 20 moves are 'automatic' in top level chess, let's just shorten the classical game by 30 minutes.

I don't understand why anyone would model pro chess circuits after anything other than pro baduk circuits in korea and china. Baduk is more similar to chess than tennis, and is very successful in the countries that host these circuits.

Half of the video was him summing Up the other half😂

Imagine having an international organism to coordinate all this

I also think there's no gravitas to the "World Champion" title anymore, which is a real shame!

In my opinion even if Levy guides is were lost.

    Chess should be entertainment.
Carlsen (and you @Levy) are one of the best entertainments.
There is no need to change anything at all.

Candidates should be the top rated 10 (after the champ) and the winner of that, challenges the champ. The current qualifying rules are garbage.

    "Everybody watches Formula 1"

Speak for yourself. I've better things to do with my time.

I like 960. Watching and playing. I think if golf has skins matches, random chess is totally worth the time and effort to put into/onto the events.

I LOVE watching chess. I am totally into all forms of chess. What puts me off is some of the commentators (like Tania).

The confession booth, multicoloured jackets and heart rate monitors were just tacky.

Levy ur not going to believe this. Last night I was at a youth group and I study ur vidies like theres no tomorrow and each week I play a couple of games. So far I am 45 and 0 so I'v won every game (ALL THANKS TO YOU) well last night a 17 yr old came up to me and Im almost 14 (this saturday is my birthday) anyways he sat down and he said that he was an IM. I didnt believe him at first but he had proof videos pictures and all that so he was the real deal. We were playing clasical and about three minutes in I had MATE IN 2 and there was no stopping it. He resigned and I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Mr. Levy for your amazing content. (P.S. I beat him with the Queens Gambit) All thanks to you.

I hate gothamchess because he’s more handsome and stronger Than me

I'd love the idea of creating a tennis-like system

Veryyyyyy interesting. As a 1400 elo i really like chess, more than 960 chess. But i like to watch top level random chess more than lonnggg classical chess. So i totally agree with you gotham with all points also. I hope there will be a bit of changements…i'm also very confuse with differents chess's tournament!
