i really do like this sort of commentary keep it up. My thoughts to the game are that there needs to be classical chess to get a world champion. I feel like chess isnt about thinking quickly but rather about thinking itsself meaning calculation pattern recognition so the accuracy of chess does not fall. Only best games can make world champion
I personally love chess 960 and to be honest I wish there was a larger focus on it in terms of online tournaments. I also think if we were to get an event organise I honestly believe if you were a part of the organisation and marketing team the overall product will reach more people and be better for audiences. Keep up the good work GOAT!!!!
World Chess Championship is the most prestigious chess event, and FIDE doesn't know because they're a bunch of Zoomers who minds lives in 70's
That 960 tournament sounds a lot like the e sports events put on by Beyond the Summit for games like super smash bros and Dota 2. I think having something like that once a year would be fantastic because you get to know the players in a way you can't from just watching them lean over a board for 6 hours.

As a spectator, classical is too slow, blitz is too quick. Rapid hits that sweet spot for "watchability"
The St. Louis chess club sucks for firing Hans Neiman. It's probably more about him beating some of those top players and embarassing them.

They could make a tennis style circle but the top 8 will make the canditates(points by tournaments not elo)and make many blitz and rapid events and little classical but important
I mean I loved the Weissenhaus Fisher Random but I also like classical chess games with classical time control. I think you are right about the World Cup. I mean I like watching Blitz and Rapid and Freestyle but I think we shouldn’t forget about classical chess.
The confusion in following various randomly appearing chess events is real. It's hard to determine what events hold value when there's no definitive system in place.

Most sports events are maybe 2 hours. American sports events are longer, because they are inflated by all the commercial breaks. American sports events, do not qualify as most sports events.

Freestyle shouldn’t be WC and if it becomes the norm, it wouldn’t b long before openings were know for them as well. I know there would be tons to memorize, but what top players today already memorized, would be considered to much 50 years ago.

Yes I would agree 7 hours is way too long but don’t change the fundamental rules of the game. Faster chess could become the prestige events. But freestyle should stay a fun side mode not elo counting for the actual game.
I dont mind the length of the chess events – I think there could be a place for all levels. Similar to cricket: there is test level but also 20/20. I do think we should preserve classic chess.
I do not care for the americanisation of the media circus around the 920 fischer. I dont care for their heart rate etc.

But do we even want chess 2 be commercial like this? Maybe we should not cast chess at all and leave it as a hobby such as Catan.
rapid and blitz is definitely more spectator friendly in a sense, but it does mean that a lot of players will not be good enough to get to that level.
Personnally, the format I like to watch the most is the Speed chess championship, two players going at each other in different time control for three hours ….

Spoken like a true NYC Liberal. Centralize, Centralize, Centralize. It's actually these worst thing that can happen to chess. Let the free market figure it out! Players and viwers will decide wich tournaments are the best by the free market forces. Centralized planing is never the answer. The free market will figure it out.
No, Chess 960 is better than classical chess. I am not good at chess (1300 elo) but its evident that Classical is getting boring with long draws. Chess 960, as a fan I look forward to it!!!!
7:31 a tennis format may be more comercialisable and more clear, but regarding the "atp points" there is an issue with that, which many players vouced about, including Zverev I think. Its unfair how the points are given and applying that in the chess world could be tricky

Freestyle chess is great because we dont know the openings
But there will be a day where this openings will be known no? I dont want to do the calculations but I imagine with the engine its not gonna take 50 years to build this database no?
Chess is special and unique. So why campaign to just make it like other sports?
Small inconsistency, you mention there are too many events but then want to add a new event format with the chess 960. Personally I think that 960 definitely is meaningful and should be part of a ranking system. Maybe dividing players in leagues of 10 where after an event the #10 gens knocked down and the #1 from the league below moves up. Problem with this is there are no central, universal group of people in charge like golf and tennis
we need a chess summit… get these organisations, billionaires and players in the same room and hash this all out. Also bin the WC, we literally don't care.
The games are to long to watch so you get 5 mio abos for cutting it to 15 min! If they shorten it up 2 mio of your viewers will watchthelive games instead! Be careful what u wish for!
I`d like some sort of Grand Slam 4like tennis . I believe the organizer of Freestyle challenge is going there, but should not be by invite ,maybe again like tennis top 32 should be seeded and something like a qualifications for the rest

FIDE needs to be part of these irregular tournaments with a strategy of bringing the most popular ones into the regular cycle surely? I would want the freestyle in the FIDE championships because it's a more interesting challenge learning concepts rather than memorising openings and sequences.
