Amazing match. Congratulations, Ding!
Ding literally needs a movie like wtf. He wasn't even meant to play in world championship 🤯
– 1st Chinese chess champion
– Played 30 classical games in a month to qualify for candidates since Karjakin was disqualified
– Finished 2nd in candidates by beating Hikaru and only qualified to world championship because Magnus refused to defend his title
– Down 1 point in the beginning of match, but equalizes it. Almost lost game 12 then made huge comeback, equalizing the match again
– Ding's first win with black pieces against Ian was the last game, if it wasn't for his courage to go for rg6, the game would be draw
– Beat Ian, 2nd ranking in the world, supported by his team with big names and have been previous world champion candidates. Does Ding even have a team backing him? idk Rapport maybe😂
– Made it difficult to enter the big leagues since China doesn't support him much and Chinese visa is crap. Pandemic made it hard to leave the country
So happy for Ding. I was rooting for him, simply because China already had many women WCs but never had one before in the men's competition… until now. Congrats Ding and China for joining the WC club ^^ 🙂
Ding proved himself the better match player.
A fitting end to a great championship. Very double-edged game but Nepo left himself too much to do. Coming out of a Ruy Lopez opening with white in a pretty poor position just wasn't good enough … and it was ironic that it was he who was running lowest on time in the end.
Shame on your Hikaru.
Supporting a false champion, absolutely disgraceful.
Without magnus their is no world chess champion.
This is not up for debate, accept it or deny it but the truth will remain.
"I did not watch the press conference but I am sure Ding was asked about this move"
In the press conference: "DING DID YOU LIKE ASTANA?"
FIDE is a joke. Tiebreaks games?
Congratulations Ding Liren!!! 🎉💐
I want to feel bad for Ian, but I don't. That's chess.
Ding deserves to win with all the effort he puts into chess. Perfect role model for beginner chess players
And naka is still salty.
Magnus never out
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the insane amount of things that had to happen for Ding, a player who wasn’t even qualified for the candidates (due to his bad luck not being able to play OTB qualifier tournaments), to manage to WIN the world chess championship???? Russia invaded Ukraine, Karjakin lost his spot for political reasons, and then Ding got the spot due to his rating and playing a bunch of games to get enough. Then, even in the candidates, Ding was doing poorly in the first half of the tournament, only to improve towards the end and just barely secure second place by half a point by winning the drawish final game against Nakamura. Then, Magnus announces that he’s not playing, and Ding is up to play the WCC. Then, Ding loses game 7 due to freezing in time trouble, and fails to win game 8 due to Nepo’s bluff… and right when it seems like Nepo is about to convert his winning position in Game 12 and effectively win the match, he makes a series of blunders that allow Ding to win that game and equalize instead. Then, in rapid tiebreaks, it was three draws, and Nepo had the white pieces in the 4th and final rapid game, and was about to make a threefold repetition, only for Ding to refuse the repetition, play for a win instead of going to Blitz tiebreaks, and then manages to WIN the final rapid tiebreak with the black pieces to become World Chess Champion, becoming the first Chinese player to win (or even to challenge for) that title. That is such an INSANE series of events that this feels like a movie where Ding is the underdog protagonist lmao
will magnus automatically get a candidate spot by elo
Good shirt
The best thing about the WC is the daily Hikaru videos.
The last game was so crazy holy hell
I've seen Fabi commentary and now Hiraku's on the new WC, I can't avoid feeling intense envy in those guys' commentary even if they're trying to cover it. I guess in their mind they are as qualified as Liren to be WC and struggle to swallow that he is while they'll probably never achieve that. Very sad …
I'm concerned that this is the last we will see from Nepo. How do you recover from this?
Я за Hikaru! И играет хорошо и коментирует! Почему не чемпион не понятно?
“I always bet on Asian” Jon Jon, Shang Chi
In a couple of years I think we will see a YouTuber verses Ding!
Many people did not know that Ian was from Russia, because of stupid rules were made to prevent him from using his country flag, this is so ridiculous politics should not be part of chess
Gotta feel a bit bad for Nepo since he completely dominated the match early on. Ding basically did the same thing he did in the Candidates where he started off the match poorly and then got better as it went along. At the end of the day it was super entertaining to watch, but I dont see how either player in the form they showed in this match would have stood a chance against Mangus and his suffocating play that punishes even small inaccuracies.
now its your turn, Hikaru. you are better than these clowns.
thank you for the recaps
It seemed to me that Hikaru feels like it could be him instead of Ding…..that last game ……
I'm so glad it didn't go to blitz, that would seem a totally inappropriate way to crown a classical chess WC imo
Although i rooted for Ding I'm waiting for a great comeback from Ian and win the title in the next championship.
Nepo is in the position Messi was for a decade feel so bad. Nepo is such a good person
11/10 thumbnail
Damn, when Hikaru realises he could have been world chess champion. Shame.
great video. thanks
Shirt is dripy
HIKARU would've beaten BOTH.
Nepo really is the world championship gatekeeper
ONE DING TO RULE THEM ALL
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
All of this happened bc Magnus doesn't care. Quite insane
Rising from the ashes 🔥
Man I always get the match results spoiled by your thumbnails 😂
Ding is chilling as hell 🥶🥶🥶
Magnus WAS out, because he chose not to defend his title. Now, we have a new world chess champion AND the best chess player in the world (who is not the world chess champion).
Those ratings are not correct for their ratings in Rapid..
Congrats for Ding, he deserved it!
Anyone have a link to Hikaru's live reaction to the games?
Ding Championship was probably the least probable chain of events in chess history.
So happy he won. Just seems like a nice dude
I love the analysis at 18:30 -> where suddenly white is "much better" with eval showing…0,4. 😅
LiChess leaked games LMAO what?
incredible Thumbnail
Man chess is brutal!!!!
