Was rooting for ding but watching ian shaking at the end made me feel really sad for him 😢

Hikaru finally called Ian surname in a right way 🙂

Congrarulations to Ding—achieving such a bold win where he could have settled for an easier draw. What balls he showed…

    @Hikaru
Hope you do less commentary in 2023-2025—detailed and excellent though your analysis is! Seems obvious that if you had focused more on classical chess, you could have been in Ding's seat. Hope you go for the crown at least once before fully retiring and fulfill your potential. Believe that with hard work and a sabbatical from streaming, you can develop enough to make the jump up in rating to >2800 in classical, to become the best! I think you can do it in the next candidates and challenge Ding. Don't think Carlsen wants to come back next year—he's been swimming in the pool too long.

can't help thinking of the fact that now the gates will open for ding, as a world champion and he will be really roasted by top 10 players in the next tournaments:):):) anyway, great win, glad it isn't nepo the winner.

Why do Nepo dirty like that on thumbnail 😂😂😂

You're the real world champion Hikaru. You're the people's champion!

Ding having balls of steel in excatly the right moment. The sheer audacity to not accept the draw probably is what it takes to be World Champion

Hikaru knows the champion could be him now.

Massive congratulations to Ding, I was hoping he would win the whole time but that disappointment, that heart break on Nepo's face as he realised and shortly after resigned was devastating to watch

Anyone thought its shorts from the thumbnail

Ian look like one of those guys that is destined to lose at the crucial moment.
I have a soft spot for guys like that so I'll remember him as a great chess player worthy of being a world champion.

Hate to be a wet blanket but if you don't beat Magnus in a classical match you don't get to be Champion. Happy for a Ding, was thoroughly entertaining but essentially meaningless chess match.

I was rooting for Ian before he insulted Pentala Harikrishna
    Very happy for Ding…👑
    Congratulations!!!!

Truth be told, Karjakin should never have been banned from chess simply because FIDE disagreed with his political views. Shameful.

Ian was the better player in the classical phase. He was the one who won with black and led for the most part. And blew a complete win in game 12 by rushing his moves under no time pressure. If not win, he should have at least drawn it. Again in game 14, he rushed to play e5 in another winning position. Ding threw away game 8 yes but Ian had the more winning chances overall. And that too with black. But then again if you don't grab your chances, you don't deserve to be world champion. And it's a pattern with him. World Rapids runner-up in 2021. Fisher Random runner-up in 2022. Twice world classical runner-up. The eternal bridesmaid. A great player but with a tendency to choke. Against Magnus, he had no chance and wasn't expected to win anyway, but this will hurt. Imagine winning two back to back candidates, years of preparation all gone down the drain. Ding lucky to be there with Karjakin suspended, Magnus abdicating and Hikaru blundering away the candidates game he needed to draw. But he took the few chances that came his way. A worthy champion.

The masterpiece of a thumbnail is not being talked about enough

Nepo didn’t even congratulate Ding or thank his opponent for the match. Needs to work on his sportsmanship…
Congrats to Ding, my fav player and a wonderful human being.

Rapid/Blitz is a terrible way to decide the World Chess Championship. Three of the last four have been decided this way. The best player remains Magnus. Nepomniachtchi obviously should have won the match but in all sports, sometimes events have surprising, unexpected results.

One thing I really appreciate is that Hikaru contextualises the eval bar. Yeah a move could be objectively a mistake or even blunder, but it's not really when you consider human nature and time pressure. Unlike the braindead chat spamming "blunder" every time the bar moves 0.1

If this is Nepos final appearance on this stage, he could be remembered a s a tragic figure in chess history.

Hikaru, I appreciate your presentation skills. To do a 30 minute unscripted commentary with hardly any mistakes is truly impressive, not to mention your expert analysis. Thanks, as always, for your time creating excellent content for the chess community.

+Mr Ding, missed all the action but happy you won sir.

Ding beats Hikaru, Ding won the championship. Hope to Hikaru wins it despite being streamer first.

I was watching a recap of the final game, and 10 minutes before it was over, Hikaru's thumbnail on the sidebar spoiled the result. Cool, I guess

Congrats to new champ. That was a clutch performance in the deciding game.
