The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.

Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

That’s a hilarious quote by Ding. He’s a hard guy not to root for.

I am waiting for one of these guys to just start the game with the strongest move, you all know the one, and the opponent resigning on the spot out of respect

Ding is gonna win. Nepo doesn’t have enough stamina imo. Nepo is very talented but he needs to work on his endurance so he makes great plays as more matches are played between the two

Like the videos. I can’t watch world championship since it goes on during my nighttime but these summary videos help. I really like when they are 25-30 mins for maximum content of world champ hames 😊

I love this channel so much I watch it till I fall asleep, now even when the chess is very exciting like this game I always want to fall asleep ! 😂

Great or Ding, Nepo continues to be the favorite, but I will love if Ding becomes the world Champion.

10:15 – I'm curious to know Ben Finegolds thoughts on this move 😂

I couldn't believe when I watched it live, I feel like a 1500 would know how borderline worthless Nepo's rooks were in that position. I agree with Anish that it was an impulsive blunder reminiscent of his bishop getting trapped in the last WCC.

Ding is probably one besides magnus who can diffuse Nepo. Wait untill he takes the trophy. 💪

Why can Black not play Queen captures on E7 in the end?

after the blunder nd4 I had to go into the computer and look at c5 to figure out why it loses it turns out the queen infiltrates. Always sac the exchange!

This was such an entertaining game to watch. Hope we get more like this as the WC continues!

    “Put it there, Little Dude”

    I would die for Agadmator.

Magnus would never lose like these guys ngl to you. Makes a more interesting match tho I suppose

Ask any poker Pro. The shaking hand is one of the most dependable tells that your opponent has a monster hand. It’s caused by you being under a lot of stress and then a release of calming hormones. Your body knows that everything is OK now and as it relaxes, you tense muscles shake. That’s why Ding’s hand was shaking as he sacrificed the rook. He knew that he had the game won.

This tell is so reliable, that there are actually sub-tells as people try to either mimic it or cover it up.

I wonder what happen if Nepo ignores the attack on the rook at 15:52 since he’s up material and just blockade the pawn

Ding shows that he has the mindset of a world champion. Very few players even in the top 20 will be able to recover beautifully like this. Maybe Magnus and Hikaru these days. But that's about it.

more fun than games against magnus. Challenging magnus is so weird and tiring

Couldn't Nepo place the two rooks ,the queen and the king to take the rook and exchange the pieces ? Right after Ding pushed the pawn all the way ,infront of the rook.

That exchange sacrifice wasn‘t hard to see! I guess most club players would have seen it within a couple of minutes. Nepo doesn‘t blunder often, but I he does, he blunders hard!

Great video as usual. But honestly, I didn't see Ding's hand shaking at all when he took the knight with his rook. That was just a melodramatic touch added by Giri in his live commentary, which Agad is repeating here. Ding was totally confident and calm when he played that move.

Me: so let me check when game 4 starts ag..
    Agadmator: hello everyone!

It is honestly pretty shocking to me that Nepo didn’t calculate what would happen if Ding sacked the exchange. In this type of position, and being down in the match you would think Ding is looking for every chance to create some imbalances, this idea seemed far too simple to be overlooked.

The commentary went from chess to the roast of Ian😂

Did Rapport play that crazy h-pawn lift in his 10-years-ago game? Please tell me he did and that I can find it analysed somewhere on YouTube… (#suggestion.)

At least it's a more interesting match than Carlsen vs. anyone.

0:52 antonio says wcc BELT hhhh. what you think this is boxing chess

In the last move why did Ian not capture the pawn?

Nepo needs to take Ding seriously… Ding may not be Magnus, but he can surely find an exchange-sacrifice

Ding is just cute man, he shows his whole humanity, showing his emotions, he’s anxious, nervous and he doesn’t hide that, he speaks freely about how he is feeling and for me that’s just a thing of beauty of existence.
