The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.

Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

The guy making the first move is the legendary "THE HODDIE GUY"😂

Watching the game live …i had goosebumps seing nepos face became red while thinking had he messed the position up or not …..but somehow he found the only winning continuation ….which anish giri and other commentators failed in finding at 1 st glance….there was one and only one way of winning continuation and all other ways were leading to equality ….but finally nepo showed how he is the best player in the world after MC……

Hope doggo is ok. Long Time No See

Looks like a complete new setup?

idk who that dude is that made the first move either but his jawline is crazy lmao bro chews refined iron for breakfast

i miss the old more slower approach to classical games, maybe try slowing down?

0:00 and it was in this position we have a completely new camera angle.

Aga: I’m not going to spoil it.
    Me: ok I’m in!

And it was in this position that agadmator , finally changed his camera angle and we entered a whole new era of chess coverage

18:47 , bro what are you talking about? Arent u missing a mate in one with queen captures pawn?

I love how Ding kept going in a lost position to really make Nepo work for it. What fighting spirit!

24:57 "Out of the last four games, we've had three decisive games…. I have no idea when was the last time [during a world chess championship]"

It was the last one if these four games don't have to be the first four games. In 2021 games 6-9 had 3 decisive ones. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Chess_Championship_2021

In 2018 the last four games were decisive, but 3 of them were tiebreak games, not the regular ones.

In 2016 I see two times 2 decisive games out of 3 games in a row.

In 2010 (Anand vs Topalov) the first 4 games had 3 that were decisive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Chess_Championship_2010

I think the best way to describe this WCC is, unstoppable force meets immovable object.
    This is getting really exciting.

4:56 ah yes, i like it when my opponents leave the bishop hanging by playing Ne7

#suggestion Please consider having another smaller board somewhere on the side of the screen, perhaps instead of pictures of players or the donations side if possible, and on that smaller board show the actuall position as it really is when going into multiple deeper lines. I find it very helpful and maybe I got used it watching the live stream. Just an idea, and as always thank you for the amazing videos please do keep up the excelent work !

The guy in the picture is an Olympic gold medalist in boxing

How cruel to choose the Nepo photo to make him into Pinnochio .

You are correct I am wrong because I say says:

I think its the first time I've seen any other camera angle on this channel in so many years. I hope it's actually the first time as well (and I've not missed any video with this camera angle earlier).

You are correct I am wrong because I say says:

After sometime a game which I can discuss with my friends at the bar and the library

4:55 Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't the bishop undefended after Ne7?

    Wait what???
In last position, After queen to f8, if nepo plays, Bishop captures on G6, then where's the problem??? Queen will be guarding the pawns promotion square, this might be holding, after that queen captures G6* check, king goes back to H8, then rook captures a2, Queen captures C3, game continues…
