The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.
Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

19:27 is queen capturing pawn F7 not checkmate ?
Is there a stream of the WC with Daniil Dubov?
At 4:56 Antonio says Ding declines to move the knight to E7 and "trade bishops". I'm a noob, and maybe I'm just missing the obvious, but that doesn't look like an exchange of bishops. That looks like Ding losing a bishop. Can someone point out what I'm missing?
Nepo is really best. But Magnus is
very good quality camera but the angle has to be lifted up a little more, like maybe 3-5 inches higher
Agad's cpmment about the last time he saw this kind of championship was before 2013… that right there is testament to just how strong Magnus is.
My gratitude to Magnus for this beautiful WCC
So proud of Nepo.
I don't understand. At 4:57, you suggest Ne7, but if Ne7 before the queen supports it, Bxb7, and black is simply a piece down for nothing. If Ra1, Qa1, Qb6 Bd5, and black is just a piece down I don't get it. Can someone explain to me how this possibly make sense please? Thank you.
All these games have shown me so far is the absolute incredible depth of understanding of the beautiful game of chess that Ding, Nepo and Magnus have. We should all be grateful they dedicate so much of their lives just to show us such art. ❤️
Amazing game. Both are playing high level chess, this allows beatiful strategies and tactics to take place.
The final position is wonderful, with an inevitable mate with such reduced material.
The analysis as well is high quality my compliment to Antonio!
Her: Babe come over
Me: Not right now new Agadmator angle just dropped
is Medo ok? haven seen him last couple of videos
When I saw this opening I thought to myself "This is going to be a boring draw." I was blissfully wrong.
Great analysis! Thank you. It seems like Ding lost when he decided to shift his dark square bishop from a defensive position near his king over to an offensive position on the other side of the board. He wasted moves, and the bishop became useless. When playing black against Nepo, a draw is a win.
Great game!!
nepo so cute man
i dont know if this is just a temporary thing, but I like the new camera setup!
Your new improved setup is excellent, agad. Good job and thank you for constantly improving the channel!
Excellent analysis 🤩.
Three decisive games out of four is certainly better than 12 draws in a row.
What in the world is going on here? We have more decisive games than draws. Is this real grandmaster chess??
Wait at 4:55 Ne7 just blunders the bishop? or am I missing something
Lovely Game!

"I have no idea when was the last time there was three decisive games out of four games. Probably before 2013" Agadmator
Dude, Magnus won games 6,8,9 out of the games 6,7,8,9 literally last WCC match.
4:57min.: What?!? If you move your knight to e7, you don't trade Bishops… you loose your Bishop!
First time I bet on sports, I bet on Nepo, chess the only thing I know, looks like its goanna pay off
Thanks!
Such a great WCC to watch so far. Will game 6 deliver as usual? Let's hope so.
Richard Rapport 15-4-23: "1 e4 is an automatic win." I can easily prove him wrong in my next 100 games!
Ding is NOT Tactical. He is Strategic! Hakamura is the God of Tactics. You are confusing Tactics with Strategy.
Antonio, nakon lovac d5 Konja ne možeš igrat na e7 jer uzme lovac Bxb7?!
Bd5 Ne7 Bxb7 🙁
No?
Ian is an amazing player .. very exciting, how the hell did magnus beat him????
Thank you for the video!
I wish you can put their time next as it really matters to see how much time they took for a specific move
So we need to say thank you Magnus for these awesome games.
is it only me or it seems like Ian is cheating somehow?
anybody got a count on how many times he said “keeping the tension”?
It's obvious that this format is the right one for the classical section.
It's exciting to see many wins in world championship, but to be honest I haven't see any game that could make my heart racing like that legendary round 6 game
Ian won this game so effortlessly, that was incredible
The second tier players match
Can someone briefly tell me what is the main difference between Morphy's defense and the Berlin defense? How does moving the knight right away as opposed to making the bishop retreat with a6 affect the game?
This was Karpov playing Ding today.
18:48 … am I sub 1000 elo and saw mate in one qf7??
4:57, wouldn't knight to E7 just blunder the bishop, what did I miss?
This is such an entertaining match. They are so evenly matched that anything can happen.
fine match
Hands down this is the most interesting World Cup tournament since 2014
