I also love how according to the rules, a player from Lichtenstein can quickly pop over into Switzerland, AUstria, Germany and Italy to get his games, every single tournament being within like 100km of each other, meanwhile a chinese player traveling 1000+ km within china for a tournament is not counted.

why does the world rapid and blitz even affect classical FIDE rating?
It seems the rating qualification spot is really the main controversial one, the other spot, though complicated at least requires players to win or place very high in competitions with other top players, so not really open to abuse particularly. For the ratings spot I would think they should switch to just using someone's peak rating during the two year cycle period. There is way less chance that anyone would be in a position to make up a late tournament and actually be close enough to their own and someone else's peak rating for it to change the order.
Chess is a game with a set of formal rules; its players use every trick, technique, and tactic that the rules allow, in their quest for total domination. FIDE also has a set of formal rules…

I think the candidates tournament should be Fide-Rating only.

Sitges is just south of Barcelona, lovely beach town. Better rated and paying tournament is Llobregat, nearer Barcelona, played a week before.
The Firouzja tournament is a disgrace.
You can't spell circuits without circus
Changing the rules for the ONGOING qualification cycle is bananas. Having events that can pop out of nowhere and count for rating and qualification is also bonkers.
Magnus Carlsen is right to wait out this circus and not compete until FIDE gets off their ass and modernizes this whole system.
His refusal to participate is putting a spotlight on a broken system. Bravo to that man for voluntarily abdicating his World Championship title and starting a snowball rolling that is leading to this need for massive change!

Absolutely agree. Right now it's allowed under the rules. ( smells fishy…but it's legal ). There should be a requirement that (to count) a FIDE tournament needs to be announced/scheduled 180 days in advance.
Simply make it like the past make zone tournamets then interzone tournaments and the the canidates. And never outsite tournaments

Why nobody thought when making the rules? Because chessplayers are not that clever?
Easy fix: Sample the players' rating once in each of the final six months of the year. 7/31, 8/31, 9/30, 10/31, 11/30, 12/31. Average them. The highest average rating across the final six months determines eligibility for candidates.
That will give the players six months to establish their initial rating – a player doing well might surge ahead by June and find themselves in a strong position when the rating period starts. But the ability of players to make last-minute adjustments in the final hours of the year will be massively reduced, since 5/6 of their score will already be decided by 12/1.
System is flawed, and needs a rework
This is like the end of the first race in cars when there was a three way tie. "And we dont even know if its going to count" sounded a lot like when darrell waltrip said "and we dont even know who won!"

I mean imagine a national team doesn’t qualify for the fifa World Cup, and then they decide to organise some friendlies which will then somehow let them kick out someone else who has qualified from the tournament. Insanity
They should return to the system from decades ago when there were interzonal tournaments with following candidate matches. Remember for example Fischer's run to World Championship match in 1972.

Wearing "Stockfish Powered B-Plugs" to farm ELO is NOT allowed, but literally setting up "Last Minute ELO Farming Tournaments" IS legal…. mhh… wich one is more embarassing? Maybe the latter is more kind to the prostate though.
I would appreciate a more standardized system by FIDE to avoid questionble grey areas. I am not an expert in the field, but i don't like the idea of having great players career developments compromised or badly influenced because someone decided to abouse such quibbles.
